Nanga Parbat

Nanga Parbat is a Sanskrit word which means a “Necked Mountain” because of its physical structure there are no tree and plant on it only glaciers and stones presents on mountain. It is the 9th highest peak of the world and 2nd highest peak of the Pakistan. It had never been climbed during winter. Some hikers say that it is much difficult to climb as compare to K2. Many of international and local hikers have lost their life in Nanga Parbat some of them buried in snow, some fall in depth, and some can’t survive on tough weather conditions.

It is located in Gilgit-Baltistan on north region of Pakistan. Only summer season (few months) is open for it. Another name of it is Diamir which means king of mountains however, it is famous as Killer Mountain. It is also awarded to Nanga Parbat that it has two international records first it is 9th highest peak and 14th most prominent mountain in the world, only two mountains has this specialty the other is Mount Everest.  It lies at the west of Indus River which is exactly Diamir region near the western end of Karakorum Range.


There are several attempts to climb Nanga Parbat some of them was deadly and some was successful. Very first attempt was made in 1895 by Albert F they reached at 23000 feet maximum on the Rakhiot face two Gurkha and Mummery had died. The next major attempt after Albert was made by Germans who was interested in Himalayas to explore. They are the same who failure to climbed Mount Everest before. The first proper attempt by Germans was made in 1932 few Americans are also involved in this expedition. Unfortunately they did not succeed as they have no experience of Himalayas and due to poor planning they came back without climbed at peak.
